Hello! I'm new but I've been following and reading this forum for over a year. Figured I'd join as I miss forum activity after my long time horse forum I visited was gotten rid of. :( Anyway, my intro:

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am not new to chickens per say, I have helped raise them in the various places I have boarded my horses, but we finally have our own farm so I invested in my own flock this year. I did use to raise and show ducks several years ago so I am quite familiar with Pekins and enjoy them very much.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 15 pullets and 2 cockerals right now, as well as 1 female Pekin.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Our flock consists of Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, Rhode Island Reds, and Americaunas.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love sitting at watching all of the flock run around the yard when they get to free range and watching their personalities shine through. They aren't quite old enough to lay just yet, but it's fun to watch them grown and learn and develop into their own selves. They keep their area of the lawn well groomed, they are friendly, and help keep the bugs near my garden to a minimum.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love to read, particularly good history books and historical fiction--but any good book can grab my attention. I have a fairly substantial garden that I like working in and for the past two falls I spend a great deal of time canning and preserving the season end harvest. We are avid campers and hikers and enjoy spending a lot of time outside.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I am a museum professional and Executive Director of a historical society. My significant other works as an Engineer so we are both very busy. In addition to our flock we have 2 horses, 1 mini mule, 2 dogs, a cat, and a red eared slider turtle.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I have known about BYC from various other chicken groups on Facebook and various Google Searches. I miss participating in forums and figured, I spend so much time reading here and looking at articles, I may as well join!
