Ok I have a black turkey. He is 1 1/2 years old been healthy up until yesterday. When I went to feed them he was laid over .. I thought he was dead. When I went to check him he jumped up staggering around like he was drunk. He is eating a little haven't seen him drink though. Does anybody have any idea what is wrong with him???

thanks

Sounds like coccidia. I'm no expert though. I have a weak turkey female right now. She is being treated with Corid. Along with nutridrench. She was staggering, Had a sunking head and poor appetite 4 days ago. Today she is showing signs of better health.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow We're so happy you've decided to join us:ya I wish the circumstances were better. Can you get a good look at his poop and maybe get it tested?

thanks y'all his poop is almost black but solid... rjohn39 today he is wheezing but standing back up. my vet gave me tetracycline hycrochlrine which I've been giving him in a syringe. with electrlytes.. He still can't eat or drink so after today I am going to try to hand feed him scrambled eggs and grits along with the antibiotics... hope it works as I have 3 other turkeys out there I do have him isolated though

farmer connie it's not coccidia... he can't walk good his neck is crooked and today he is wheezing but no crust in eyes or nostrils .... a friend told me to give him tylan injections ...I don't know... I'll just keep doing what I'm doing per my vet and add soft foods tomorrow say a prayer for him please...

If you've got it, a little canned pink salmon, mackerel or tuna in oil mixed in with the eggs will give him a protein and vitamin boost.

hahahahaha, @rjohns39 ....it seems all the world's problems can be solved with a little bit of canned pink salmon!!! :lau (i heart you, rjohns)

...but seriously, it worked for my skinny Silkie!

also, i would try some Nutridrench. that stuff is magical.

he seems to be doing better today except now he sounds congested... and I'll try the salmon with his eggs and grits Oh and what is the Nutridrench for?
