I've noticed today that my muscovy has dry cracked feet. She waddles outside but then ends up cracking and bleeding her pad. The bedding in the coop is all shavings. I just want to know how i go about it!
I was thinking about buttering them up with polysporin but all the shavings will stick to her feet? Anyone dealt with this before?

I would highly recommend good old Bag Balm. It has a lanolin base, not petroleum jelly, but the shavings might still stick. The stuff really heals, though.

I discovered it back in the 1960s when my children were small and all three developed chapped, cracked and bleeding hands. It was so painful, all three were crying. The druggist recommended it to me. Most drug stores still carry it, and all feed stores do.

After I greased the kids up, I put socks over their hands so the Bag Balm wouldn't rub off during the night. By morning, all three pairs of hands were well on their way to healing.

I wonder if socks would work on duck feet? Hmmm.

I could try and gimic something with a sock. Even if i cant find antmything to put over it im guessing its better i use it and the shavings stick than not using it at all. Would they sell this at wallmart?

I have never seen it, but Walmarts are different in what they carry. Feed stores all have it because it's a necessary dairy cow med for chapped udders. Don't laugh. That's what is was originally for.

I cant find any besides online :(
Would this work or should i not?

Have you called around to the feed stores in your area? Call the Walmart pharmacy and ask there.

The key ingredient is lanolin which, I believe, protects and heals exposed tissue better than petroleum products.

I would try a bit longer to find the Bag Balm. Unless you're in an urban setting hundreds of miles from ranches and farms, you shouldn't have trouble finding Bag Balm. But use that salve if you can't find it.

There are no farm or feed stores near me the nearest is 3hrs away. I live in the country but theres no farming besides hay. Wallmart doesnt hold any in the towns close to me. Neither does homehardware or rona which says they do hold the product..

I'm pretty sure my grocery store carries bag balm and it's either with the first aid stuff of with the hand lotions and soaps. Thank you for posting this question. I just noticed the other day that my youngest, least cold hardened ducks are starting to have some rough looking chapped(?) feet after our recent below 0*F week. It is their first winter, I feel the older ducks feet are more hardened/calloused and they don't seem to be bothered at all.

If you have mineral oil, castor oil, or coconut oil, those would be good to use. Bag Balm has lanolin, petroleum jelly, and preservatives, so you should be able to get something close to it.
