Dry membrane is it time to intervene???!!

Thanks, I think we are doing much better! And thanks again for all your help!!! There is a HUGE difference since this morning. I ended up cutting the cord that was still attached because the duckling kept trying to kick it off and I was afraid that it would rupture. Since there was some navel still open I freaked out all day and applied tons of bacitracin. I also bought antibiotics and save-a-chick, because I am determined to do everything possible to make sure this duckling makes it!

Also, my profile pic is my Rouen ducklings, but they don't look like that anymore. It's crazy how quickly they grow!!

yes they grow so quickly! that is excellent! well done, that duckling is in good hands! no problem, I am happy to help, and good luck in the future, hopefully now you have changed your mind about incubation in the future!

Yes, it's doing quite well!! I'm still apply bacitracin to its navel area considering this is what it looked like.

I feel bad because I don't want to introduce my two other ducklings until this one is completely healed, but this one is so lonely!! Whenever I walk out of the room he squeaks very loudly until I come back!!

that's excellent! he or she is gorgeous! don't introduce the older ducklings to him, they could seriously hurt him s he is so tiny and so defenceless. i once had a batch of eggs in the incubator, only one made it, she was alone for the first four weeks of her life, but she imprinted on me, as she thought i was her mum! now she follows me in the garden and loves me, and is the mother of four healthy chicks! try to handle him as often as possible, and i know it sounds weird but talk to him! you might want to put a old small cuddly toy in with him for him to snuggle up to - this is what i do with my ducklings and chicks. well done! he is gorgeous though!

I was thinking it would be awhile before this little one had any friends; I plan on getting it a stuffed animal soon. I don't think it's weird that you talk to your animals! I always talk to mine :)

Thanks again for all your help!

okay, if I were you I would just start peeling of the shell where the air cell is. once you have removed the shell where the air cell is - and only where the air cell is - then make a slit in the membrane. if there is no blood and the duckling is still chirping then continue to peel off the membrane until the head has emerged, the duckling should be able to use its legs to push itself out. I have a video of me getting a chick out the egg this same way - if you want, I can send it to you to help you. the chicks survived and is now a beautiful healthy and happy hen. good luck! just go for it, at this stage, where the ducklings life is in danger, the best thing to do I just go for it! :)
Can you send me this video?!
