Dry Uncooked Or Cooked Oats?

I have a few cans of outdated oats that a friend gave me for my chickens. Should I cook it first or is it ok to give it to them raw right out of the can?

Both are fine. My chickens like cooked and un - cooked.

haven't tried uncooked, but if there are leftovers from making oatmeal for our 10 month old son, i always give it to the chickens. they absolutely love it. the bowls are always clean.

I make cooked oatmeal for my hens every morning and add plain yogurt.
Maybe 1/2 cup cooked oatmeal & 1 tablespoon yogurt per bird.

I also give them whole oats as scratch- toss a handful mixed with BOSS every now & then.

They love both equally - the oatmeal gets picked at even before I can put the bowl down (they roost near the coop door).
The scratch is so beloved they know the container I keep it in and "ask" me for it...well, actually they DEMAND I open the container & hand it out

they like both, but the protien in oats and barley are better absorbed by chickens if it is cooked first.
