I don't know why, but this absolutely fascinates me. I think it would be a great birthday present for my brother. I'm seeing chicken feet holding colored stones...
Problem is, the birds I dress out have huge feet.
I butchered a rooster that, to me, had huge spurs (about 3 inches) so, I took the feet andstood them up just as if the chicken were still at the top. I laid something heavy across the toes and propped them up with a brick from behind. Dried beautifully
I left them out int he garage for a couple weeks like that because I forgot about them. They are still standing hehe
We've put some feet on a log or branch, and just leave them outside to dry out. Then it looks like the chicken got blown away and all that was left were the feet
wow I've just not been getting notifications and suddenly there's so many replies!
I'm not concerned about bugs, I have them in a coffee can with salt....lots of salt. And they're still in there, it's been almost 2 weeks? The toes can still be moved, does that mean they aren't perfectly dry?
Love the chess set...but I'm not sure how i'd tell all the pieces apart.
Leaving them outside anywhere to dry would be an issue. We have so many raccoons, opossums, farm cats, coyotes, etc who would make a snack of a treat like that in the midle of winter.
Leave them in the salt until you can not bend the toes at all. If you can still move them then there is still moisture in them. Also you may want to change the salt once in a while.
