Du-mor or don't du-mor

Are oyster shell and egg shells equally good sources of calcium? Can mussel or clam shell be used as well? How about bone chips?
Oyster Shells are better than egg shells, because they last longer in the Gizzard to form the egg shell overnight when the hens are sleeping.
Sure mussels, clams and bone chips should supply Calcium.
But I wouldn't smash with a hammer and offer to them. The sharp edges may cut their throat.
I suppose if you put them in a Rock tumbler till smooth would work. GC

Ok thanks. Why doesn't the egg shell cut them?

Egg shell is soft and porous compared to mollusks.
So soft that I crush egg shells with my fingers after they've dried for a day or two.
I could never do that with a muscle or clam.
If you watch a chicken eat egg shells they break it into smaller pieces.
Some people just toss a cracked egg in the pen, like before I crush it.

Ok great. I got some oyster shell today, mixed some with the crushed egg shells I've been using.

I got some feed, too.
It was expensive, but if they'll eat it, i think they ought to be healthy.

It's non gmo layer feed without soy. It has peas instead. And fish. !
I'm wondering if the fish will make the fermenting idea not work.
