Dual purpose Meat bird and feeding schedule

I am looking for a good dual purpose meat bird or slow growing meat bird. I have 11 Cornish X now and I want something that i can use with my layers. they will all be free range and hopefully Organic. This bunch.

Is it good to feed meat birds 12 on 12 off for feeding. I have just let them feed 24/7 I figure I am processing here in a few weeks so Eat up. am i wrong to do so?

The 12 on/off seems to help cut down flip or other unexplained early deaths. I admit, my small batch had feed available most of the time, I did limit it to the 12 on/off for maybe weeks 4-6? Then they were with the other birds and I just left it available. But they don't eat while they're asleep. I didn't lose any, and actually have three hens left that are approaching ten or eleven weeks and doing fine.
