hi folks! been feeding these s. american roaches to my flock. they really love them and are a blast to watch them chase them down. these are not like our invasive house roaches. they're woodland roaches. they can't climb smooth surfaces. i feed mine grains , dry dog food and veg. scraps. they're in a large tote with several egg flats stacked on their side. the roaches hang out on them and their frass drops to the bottom. one in awhile ill move the colony to a fresh tote and pour the frass in the garden. looks like black sand and is fertile like worm castings. there is no smell with them either. they reproduce faster than mealworms . many pet stores carry them to feed reptiles. like most bugs are very nutritious for your chickens. try them out.
