Hello,
I am new to d'uccles and have what I hope is a simple question. I've read through many of the posts on color genetics and while very interesting my head is spinning. Most of the discussion seems to involve lavendars, porcelains etc. I am light-years behind you! I just have the regular gold colored Mille Fleur and will soon (hopefully) be getting a couple of black mottled.
My question is:
What do you get when you cross Mille Fleur to Black Mottled? The site with the color calculator says 50% black unicolor pied/mottled. Does this mean 50% black mottled and 50% Mille Fleur? Or something else? Thanks!

I will be very interested to hear what you get! I have spoken to the breeder of the black mottled and she mentioned the gold bleed into the black, but I know there are many project birds that are being used to effect a certain color outcome. It's all very interesting.

Yeah, that roo came from a group of 7 chicks out of two normal looking milles, and almost all of the chicks were different colors! I got 2 blue mottled hens, 1 black mottled hen, 1 mille hen, 1 mille roo, 1 blue mottled roo with gold bleed, and the black/gold mottled i mentioned before. It'll be a mystery to see what I get, hopefully I'll have a wide variety.

i have a self blue rooster, a porcelain pullet, and a mille pullet (with porcelain heratige)

sb X porcelain = all self blue carrying the molted gene correct
sb X mille = lav. and black or would it be black and porcelain?

Can I ask a silly question? I know that mottled and columbian create the mille fleur pattern, but why do some of you want to breed mottles to your mille fleurs? Are you trying to get more color/spots into your birds?

On another note, some of my d'uccle chicks I thought would be goldnecks are coming out with YELLOW feathers and bright black markings. This could be it! My search for Citron might have arrived!!!!
