I have five d'Uccle chicks that hatched May 5. Up until yesterday, I was guessing two of them were little roos based on their comb development: the combs of these two chicks are bigger and already red, as compared with their three same age siblings. But yesterday I noticed chick no. 3 starting to get a red comb. Another little roo, or an earlier maturing pullet?

I know I'm going to have to wait to see for sure, but I'm anxious. We so wanted more d'Uccles, and we can't keep the roos!

The differences show up pretty early. Here is a mille fleur d'uccle hen and roo at 8 weeks.

Oooh, beautiful birds.

The little pullet looks like she hasn't even started growing her comb at 8 weeks. Is that typical? Darn. I think I may have three roos.

I'm in the same boat - I had 2 MFd'U hatch out in my first batch of the year and they both appear to be roosters...

I hatched out 4 in my latest batch - hoping for hens (the four in the back are Mille fleurs - one of them came out black)!

I'm so glad you posted this.

I hatched 9 that are now 5 1/2 weeks, sold 6 to a friend at 1 week. She ended up with 3 of each gender, I have 3 pullets. At least they have tiny pale combs, so I think pullets. By six weeks is it obvious?

Those of you with roos, are you in Washington? I was hoping to get an unrelated Mille Fleur d'Uccle roo for my girls.
