When I first saw the name I kept wanting to say Duche (due-chay) as in Duche DeLacey ice cream.

Took be forever to get used to calling it Doo-kills. Well, at least that's how I've ended up re-pronouncing it!

Sorry I wasn't much help!

Wow, those are great responses!

I have to admit there are many more versions than I could dream up and I think they all sound reasonable. I would love to tell someone what kind of chicken I have without looking like a chicken- idiot. I think my favorite is Sonoran Silkies (a bit long, but we do live in Alabama --- so I think I could make it work).

Anyone else want to throw their two cents in? So far I think the lead would be with doo-CLAY with two votes. LOL

Ok, so I asked my mom(who is german, born in germany, blonde hair, blue eyes, 100% german) because she has a wonderful grasp on language and we had this discussion. Because the " d' " means 'of' or 'from' it is lower case and is often dropped in pronunciation. They also drop it in Belgium where the breed is from. So, I have been pronouncing the breed as "Oo-cull" . I could be wrong, but it seems logical being as the d' is often dropped.
