Hey all! I was wondering if a few d'uccle experts could tell me how my d'uccle pullets are shaping up. They are 3 months old. All input is greatly appreciated!

Well, they were sold as SQ hatching eggs, but I never hold my breath. I relatively new to this breed so if you could point out some of the qualities that need improvement? Thanks!

I think they are very nice! I agree they probably are not going to be show quality but I'm no expert on these.
I'm including a pic of my own BF that I traded for recently. I love the color on the one in the front [with no tail feathers]
BUT I like the color on all of them and on all of yours also.
A long time ago I did raise these kind of birds and even showed some, and I found the color will improve as time goes on. I can't guarantee this and someone else may disagree but that has been my experience.
Here are mine:

They will develop the white as they mature. D'uccles get more white with each molt.
If I remember right - I think the curve of their back is not correct. I could be totally wrong though.
I think it needs to be more "U" shaped.

Sorry if I'm hijacking your thread but could you guys tell me too? They are only 8 weeks old but look (to me) like they might be shaping up really nice? It's two pullets and a Roo. The pictures were taken though on march 24th. I can get more shots if they are needed.

Well, they look better than hatchery stock, and that's all some people need to sell as SQ. You could probably win something at the county fair, tho, and that's my favorite way of showing!

There are some excellent examples here: http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGK/Millies/BRKMilleFleur.html
(Seriously, I have a link to that site on my desktop. It's like the chicken Bible.)

--And also, there's a great breeder in the UK, (probably the best I've ever seen), I can't find the link tho', so I'll post it if I find it... His D'Uccles are AMAZING!

Thanks so much ya'll! Yes I have read that they will get more white as they age and molt, so here's hoping

Thanks for the link, super great pictures.

Rin- Your pullets are so cute!

I do know, like pbjmaker said, that they will develop more white spots as they get older. Either way the breed is amazing and by far one of my favorites, they are very docile and just flat out adorable.

Good luck with them, they are little beauties.
