hey there!

my partner's coworker has offered to give us 3 little mille fleur chickens and i want to make sure we don't end up with 3 roosters LOL - i have no idea how to tell if a chicken is male or female :) they're so beautiful and i've ordered a coop and run for them! but i would like advance notice if i'm going to have to get more chickens to end up with some lay-dies, and to brace myself for giving 2 away if they're all roos!

thank you!!

it was mentioned they were treated for roundworm and coccydiosis? i wonder if they were being bullied and that's why she wants to give them to us? i think she has decent sized flock. she is giving us medicated feed as well so probably they had some sort of issue.. i'll investigate!

It could be the bullying. As with humans, mental health affects physical health, in my opinion. It could be worms or the medication for worms. If they were raised in cages, it could be that their bodies are adapting to ingesting microorganisms they weren't exposed to before. Or they could just be cold or having a bad day. I feel that with proper care they will be just fine, but it's something to keep an eye on. We have a forum for medical help for poultry on BYC, and it's a valuable resource if problems occur.

Thank you so much :) I've been lurking that forum for a while before finally getting chickens because I want to be super ultra prepared lol. And lots of chicken podcasts the past couple of years too! I want them to be soooo happy and healthy!!
