D'uccle Thread

Im new to the d'Uccle world too

I am new to the Booted bantams and the d'Uccles. I have eggs from both breeds in the bator and I can't wait for them to hatch and to learn all about these little beauties!
I have many breeds but I always like to learn about others and not just throw off on them because I know nothing about them. I can say I do not like some breeds but that is after being around them. I want to give it a shot by owning these little beauties and see what I learn about their little selves.

Please bear with me as I ask questions while they are growing up. I went to the website for them but it does not have photos to help and I noticed is mostly for showing. I am interested in the bird, not the showing of them. I like all the little characteristics that make these birds.

So can everyone on here that owns these little cuties tell me WHY you own them? What makes them special to you? How are they any different from other small chickens?

I think that would help us newbie owners learn more about them.

anyway, from there, back breed the offspring, you will get more
lavender
mottled lavenders
and some porcelains
isabela colombians (non mottled porcelain basically)
isabela duckings in plain and mottled are a possiblity also

I have seen both the lethal gene and also the feather-stop in action. Not pleasant. Definitely present in d'Uccles.

Thank you on the isabela description. I have one of those from my mf x lav 2nd gen. Pretty bird, feathering nicely. A cockeral, too...

And when you read their history, they were purely bred for show. I think that made a difference in temperment and intelligence. They are smart, and awesome fliers and foragers when allowed to free-range. Also social enough to come and jump in your lap and 'talk' to you.

I've had some hens fly up on my shoulder to scold me when I was petting a silkie.

I've also had them come push the cats out of my lap to comfort me when I'd had a really bad day.

They have a unique voice that is different than other bantam chickens.

When they lallop across the yard on those big feathery feet they never fail to make me smile.

A SQ d'Uccle is gorgeous and they come in beautiful colors and patterns.
