I don't get it; i thought porcelain + millie = millie carrying porcelain? I had wanted to try my porcelain du'ccle roo on one of my blue buff EE's, is there a chance that i could get a blue pattern from that or is it only because of some magic millie gene??! Is she carrying the lav (porcelain) gene then?

I am having one of those days where I can't remember...ugh. I have some chicks that are about 3 weeks old and another set that are about 5 weeks old. At about what age do the spots start showing up? I am starting to separate ones that I want to keep for show vs pet quality ones.

Also, I had one black chick hatch out of a millie pairing. Not sure where that came from. I am hoping that it may be a black mottled

. I have never had black mottleds. When do their spots start showing. Right now, he/she looks like a little penguin.

After the first molt. Then they get more spots with each molt. So hold on to them for a while.

Wow. Does anyone know the genetics behind it? Maybe we can make them.

You need either the dilute gene, Di, or the gold gene, Ig or the silver gene, S. So you can try to bring the cream dilute gene by crossing with a cream brown dutch, or even some of the buffs. The buffs are usually an unknown factor. Some can be just buffs, but other can carry the mahoghany gene with a dilute to make it look buff. Lavender wouldn't work on a mille fleur because it dilutes EVERYTHING. I'm going to try a cross with a Citron Spangled Hamburg banty- I'm waiting for the eggs now. I also noticed that some of my chicks that came out of a d'uccle/buff silky cross are showing promising colors. There's just no telling what is in those buff genes. So if you see a unique colored buff, maybe use that bird. Did you ever notice that some mille fleurs fade and others don't? i'll bet there's a different make-up for those two buffs.

x2, are the parents from pure colors? Do you have pics of them? Unless the porcelain somehow is carrying blue mille and porcelains shouldn't produce blue mille. What color have her hatchmates been?

I was wondering if you but a Golden Neck under a Black Moltted, if you can get that combo.

Black mottle x golden neck would give all chicks that look similar to blue mille's, but genetically aren't.

Hey everyone! I am a brand new 4H poultry leader for a small 4H club. We just ordered 4 Mille Fleur Bearded d'uccles for each member (about 6 members from 5 to 16 years old). We are planning to use our birds to learn about showmanship and breed standards. Does anyone have any advice about this breed that I can pass along to our members? 2 families have never had chickens before. Do they need any special attention to keep their feet feathers pretty? Is there any other advice that is helpful with this breed? Thanks so much.

I'm in line to get some citreon (lemon) Sablepoots to introduce the lemon into my d'Uccles. I

some of the eggs hatch.....

Doug The Chicken Man has them already started up in Canada. Can't reach him, though.

The best advice I can give is to read through the entire thread. I did, and learned OH SO MUCH!!!! Can't emphasize that enough. You'll get all you need to know, either from what's written here, or through the links people provide. Great choice on birds!
