D'uccle Thread

MaryRuthLangdon,
Such cool colored new birds!! I have a blue mottled hen, but she's not as nice as yours:) I'm breeding her to a regular mille roo, we'll see what I get! I start collecting eggs on Sunday and plan to incubate shortly thereafter, can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you... I think she is beautiful and I love her little personality... I am thinking of adding a porcelain hen to that pen to see what kind of colors I can get from them.

I fell in love with this breed last year when we got chicks at TSC from the bantam bin.... one was a porcelain d'uccle hen.... "Babydoll" is my favorite chicken on the yard.

I have enjoyed watching her grow into a pretty little hen.

I have a question about the mille fleur coloring. I've noticed on my almost-6-week-old milles that the cockerels are getting some white-tipped feathers, while most of the pullets have none or only a couple, or a few at most. I think there is one cockerel that doesn't have any, or only has a couple. Is it common for the males to get the white tips sooner than the females, or does it depend on the breeding or family?

And, just for fun, some pictures I took of the kiddos this afternoon!

Due to all of our rain the pics were a little delayed.

These are the three roos from last year's hatch. All of them were from my Mille Fleur Begian Bearded D'Uccles. We love our little white boyz but were rather surprised by them. Their boots aren't looking as good as they were. Their runs were so muddy.

Lady JAi, the two white roos are booted bantams, a close relative of Belgian D'Uccles. You can tell by the addition of large wattles and no beards (booted). D'uccles have little to no wattles and beards with ear tuffs.
Still, they are gorgeous!
