Looking for a home for the boy... hes so lovable..

Mine are show quality from a private breeder, and they don't lay quite so regular and definitely not in the cold! Supposed to be broody a lot too.

The millies i got from the hatchery were more hardy than the porcelains, not sure if it was the color or from the difference in the parent stock.

I think the broodiness and longer laying cycle are from the way they breed hatchery stock. My show Mottled girls started laying agin after their molt but I'm sure that will come to a halt here in a week or so, none of my Millie's are laying but they still have clutches.

Do you mean LACK of broodiness and better /longer laying is more common in hatchery stock? That has been my experience at least, and make sense hatcheries would breed that way.

Yes that is what I meant. Everyone of my non hatchery hens except one younger pullet went broody this year. One twice and raised 2 clutches. She has 7 chicks now and one other has one chick

My little girl that I picked out of a group of assorted SR banties at the feed store (along with my Cochin roo, who is in the second pic behind the Delaware pullet). I was pleasantly surprised to find out what she was. I'm waiting for her to start laying so I can eventually hatch some of her eggs.
