I've heard about 8 or 9 months before they start laying. Mine are almost 7 months and still aren't laying consistently. We had a week where one of them laid 3 eggs. That was almost 3 weeks ago now. So I'm guessing she wasn't quite ready yet haha. But I definitely wouldn't expect consistent laying until at least 7 months.
 
I have a sort of random question. I was thinking of possibly adding a silkie to my flock. But I have never seen how big a silkie actually is. Are they a lot bigger than a d'uccle? Or are they semi-comparable?

Silkie hens weigh about 2 lb, so a bit larger than a d'Uccle. The cocks get to be about 3 lb, so perfectly safe for other breed bantam hens (tiny like Nankins and d'Uccle).
