D'uccle Thread

Do you just have mille fleur and porcelain? Have you noticed any difference in the laying ability or general hardiness between the different colors? Im leaning toward ordering the DUccle assortment so I can get a few colors (and also because I cant pick a favorite color!) but concern is that not all the varieties may be as hardy/ productive as the mille fleur.

I wouldn't worry about color and laying abilities. The difference is so minimal you wouldn't even notice. Like maybe one color may lay 10 eggs more or less than another per year. But also depends on the individual bird.... If I were you I'd just go with the assortment. If your not in to breed a specific color then the variety would give you a pretty little backyard flock!:)

My Millie hens are molting right now. From my perspective, my "best" hen has gotten better. Her color is more even, and her mille fleur is nice and balanced.

I just have the three porcelain girls and the one mille fleur. They all lay the same. I know they started laying in Feb. this year after taking a two month break. But they lay alot.

Hi Everyone....chocolate mottled d'uccles?? Lets talk about this! I am going to start up a choc mottled project. Not dun, rather true sexlinked chocolate. How interesting would that be to the d'uccle world? I assume not so much for the APA gang...but for backyard chickeners? Thoughts? I don't show my birds and have no interest in doing so, but I do try and at least breed to type. I'm a color project gal to the bone!
after 7+ years of backyard poultry, I've settled on the fact that d'uccles are by the far my fave for personality. And that's key for me. I have very young kids and even our 'utility' layers have to be cuddleable to qualify for a bed here at the Sterkfarm. Love, love, love this breed! But am obsessed with chocolate birds. Just wondering (as I will undoubtedly have plenty through the project) if you other d'uccle fans would be 'interested' in them? And most of mine are mottled so this is a natural project for me. Not trying to sell anything...just wondering if this will net me a cage of loads of Choc mottleds LOL

So I have a question, my flock is having a tendency now to have kind of curled or swept back neck feathers...... Do I need to NOT breed those hens with the wavy locks? The roosters in the pic did not make the move with me....except one who had the right personality.
Are those porcelains? The shadow is making them blue looking....what a stunning color!

These are my pair of mille fleur d'uccle from Privett. The are about 6 month old. Not show quality and he needs more white but I love her color.

Your will develop more white spots as he gets older. My D'Uccle roo had very few spots last spring but is now beginning to spot out nicely. He is now about 1 yr old

I have wanted some porcelain D'uccle for some time and just got these off of a CL add. The seller has been ill and is selling out most of his breeds of chickens, bantams, ducks and geese. I would like to have them critiqued. I'm hoping for good quality, but would like to know what I'm starting out with.

I had a dream I had a little millie fleur girl who sat on my lap. I want d'uccles sooo bad! I think someone is incubating eggs for me.

Anyway, if I wanted to start a silver d'uccle project, what would I breed a millie fleur to? Maybe a silver birchen maran or a silver duckwing ameraucana?

The rooster in the right photo on the left looks very nice, but to me, the hens don't have very compact bodies.

Very nice birds!
