They typically get more white after their first molt.

I have several juvenile mille fleurs that have a collar similar to a columbian. Is that normal? I ordered mille fleur d'Uccles from Ideal. Also their body color is not mahogany like I thought it should be. If I was to choose between darker body color or toe feathering what is more important?

I have another cockerel from a different source that has a darker body color but less spots and less toe feathering but is 2 weeks older I only want to keep 1 cockerel so how do I choose?

unsure on genetics since chicken calculator does not cover some of the colours but here is the breakdown, I golden necked rooster and one buff mottled rooster -1 golden necked (??-perhaps buff mottled) hen, 1 self blue hen, 2 mille fleur hens and one blue mille fleur hens --I would think the millie fleur pattern would be dominant but here is what I got from my hatch - 4 goldish ones and one that looks like mille/blue millie




why is the lighter colours trumping the millie pattern?

You can eliminate obvious faults early if you are looking for SQ type; no feathering on the second toe, odd comb, early sign of human aggression. Beyond those types of things, the chicks need to be much older to decide on the best one or two cockrels. I,m growing some babies myself right now, and every day I look, trying to make decisions sooner than I know is reasonable. Good luck, Mary

You won't see mahoghany until it's older, and only males have it in d'uccles.
