i was trying to keep the "genes" simple because it gets confusing fast when you add all the double sets of genes. Your is more accurate, i have seen the website you referenced many times myself and it is a good sight.

The Splash i was talking about is not the golden necks....i was meaning the blue splashes that appear visually blue with white mottling Like this:

Also Ideal has both true golden necks and what your calling splash golden necks, so you could end up with either or..basically they are not set up to keep all the genes seperate, so you could end up with a MF looking bird split to any of the other colors potentially.

Oh, okay. I was confused because I did think you were talking about the Golden Neck Splash. That is why I call the Gold-Based Splash "Splash Golden Neck" as to not get them confused with the Black-Based Splash which is commonly just called "Splash".

I don't know quite as much about the black-based birds as I do the gold-based. To me the one in your photo looks just like a regular Bl/bl Blue Mottled. As far as i am aware and i am very possibly wrong, mottled and splash are the same thing in D'uccles because they do not have a true splash. As in they are not randomly colored with secondary color....they instead have a pattern of a secondary color (MF have more then one obviously)

For intents and purposes as far as i know these are the names of these birds:

Golden Neck (notice it has gold base white pattern)

Splash Golden Neck (white base gold pattern)

Blue Mottled/Splash (blue base white pattern)


Black Mottled/Splash (black base white pattern)


If you look at all those birds they actually have the MF Flower Pattern aka mottled...as i said i have yet to see a splash pattern. Some people will show pics of roosters or cochins that have very long feathers and look like they are a splash when they actually just have a mottled pattern that you cant see because of the long feathers.

Sorry i forgot to comment on the roo you posted the link too. He does look like a true splash, as it is not a pattern of secondary color, he has more of a saddle that extends up his neck. He also has blue and gold feathers. i believe he was just a cross of various D'uccles or birds to get a true type splash. The breeder has a lot of crosses within the D'uccle lines and possible outside of i have no information that says she is breeding outside D'uccles it is just possible of course. So basically he is either a mutation to a true splash or a product of an outcross either way he was a very pretty roo.

Any of you successfully dealt with inflamed feather follicles on feet? I brought my roo in and i see one of his toes is swollen, flat, and inflamed looking he is 3 i think and has never had feet issues. He feels warm in general, but it is a solid inflammation and no scab or anything to lance???

My little D'uccles figured out how to deal with the cold weather. They usually roost together. Tonight I found them like this. Mac (above) between my two oe's. And Cheese, to the right of pic, also wedged between two big girls.

I haven't posted in a while so bear with me, i have lots of questions
Going back to the spur debate, what does the standard say? is it okay to show roos with no spurs or spurs that are mis-shapen?

When it comes to mille hens, I have some that are more tan and some that are more red/gold. Is there one base color that is more desirable than the other?

Finally, I too am looking for some hatching eggs this spring. I really would like some solid blacks and whites and maybe some gold neck. I am also looking for eggs from birds that are more short and squat because my flock tends to be a little more elongated looking than I would like. Any ideas of who i could contact?
