D'uccle Thread

My d'Uccles do fine in the cold too, the only cold weather problems I have had, is when I used to free range them, they had trouble getting back to the coop at night do to the snow on the ground. And I have a few minor cases of frost bite, other then that, they have all done just fine.

Thank you everyone! Based on your responses I think they will do just fine in my climate. I will report back if I get d'Uccles in the spring, which looks likely now.

And Metella, your girls are so cute!

Thanks for the info guys! Let me know if anyone does get an answer from a judge on the spurs question. I have been doing a lot of research online trying to find d'uccle breeders that ship eggs and wow, there aren't very many of us out there. Lots of people breed milles, but colors like solid black are really hard to find:(

As far as cold temps go, mine do fine here in Wisconsin and we have stretches of weather where it gets well below zero. The only problems I have if with frostbite on the combs of the roos. I have heard that putting vasoline on them can help, but I have never tried it as the frost bite is pretty minor.

FuzzyButt Love, do you know how often to apply the Vasoline? Does it last a few days or do you have to put it on every day?
Daily as far as i know but i have never done it myself.....seems like way to much of a fight. The birds tend to get very stressed out anything i try to touch them. They can come up and stand on my feet and peck my boots, eat my hair, etc and thats fine but...touch them oh my....they are gonna die!!
