I still have some eggs in the bator not due to hatch for another week or so but I am up to 24 d'Uccles! It will so neat to watch them mature and see all the changes and differences. All four batches are/will be banded with a different color so I will know what is from whom.
I have already started building their condos (shipping crates turned apartments) and they will have their own separate pens away from the big birds but they will also be able to spend time out free ranging when they are a lot older since I am sure their neighbors, the ducks, won't mind sharing pasture space.
It may upset them a bit to realize we do not have much in the way of trees for them to roost in. maybe they will go back to bed in their condos instead. I saw one at a friend's house the other night fly up into a big tree. I do not allow any of my birds to stay out at night except the escapee butchering boys. Even with a LGD I know that owls are swift and quiet.
I am enjoying everyone's photos! It makes me so excited to set forth in my own adventure with these little cuties!
