D'uccle Thread

I have 1 cockeral and 7 pullets that I got in early August from Rob and Kathleen Shultz in Indianapolis. They are the sweetest birds-very comparable or even surpassing my Silkies. The cockeral (Mr. Bojangles

) is my alarm clock every morning. He crows from 6:30-7:00 a.m. every morning, and rarely crows any other time. They can all be picked up and petted, and they love it. I have wanted them for a long time, and finally got my chance, so I grabbed it!

Since Moonchild showed you all the wonderful little gal that I hatched from Teddiliza I will show a few others in my little flock.

He doesn't have a girlfriend so lives in a tractor with my extra d'Uccle boys. they get along great and hens free range all around the tractor during the day.

I have found out I have a rumpless girl that is an actual breed! Fascinating since I thought she was just some sort of mutant. It is called a Belgian d'Everberg. Anyone ever heard of it?

These are awesome little birds! They are absolutely too sweet and so much fun to deal with. I love my bantam Cochins but these little birds have wormed their way into my heart, for sure.

If they grow up and stay together, it should be ok if you have enough hens, as they'll have established a pecking order growing up. They do tend to challenge each other a bit for the top spot on occasion, but not as much if they are from the same hatch I've noticed. But if you separated them and tried to introduce them later when they are older it could get ugly. All my d'uccles are going through a late molt, I sure hope their feathers grow back in time for the show next month! Normally mine all molt in August. I like to keep the ones with the best personality first, and no major flaws, then hold on to them for about 4 months to see how they grow out for color and confirmation.

I agree with teddi, either plenty of hens or no hens at all. If they stay together, and have plenty of room they should be fine. Occasionally there will be one guy that's a bully, or if there are two boys that are equally matched and both want to be top dog, that can get ugly, someone needs to be willing to back down. Just raise them together and they'll be OK. I've got a gaggle of roosters together right now and there have been no problems.

Thanks for the advice and tips Teddi & Lilcrow. Sorry I missed the reply the first time and asked again. Since I only have three hens either I have to get more or find homes for the boys because 3:5 ratio isn't a good one!

Hello! I hope some one on this thread could help- it seemed like a good place to try.

I would love to get some Porcelain D'uccles for my 4-H project next year, and I was wondering if anyone knew a good breeder/hatchery in Ohio where I could buy chicks for next spring. They would be show chickens, and I would like to know if anyone had show quality birds they were breeding.

I don't have an incubator, so hatching eggs would be difficult unless one of my Brahmas went broody. Any suggestions?

My only D'uccle, Ebony, got killed by some dogs today, silly thing escaped and flew over the fence

Luckily none of the other girls saw what happened...

Contact lilcrow. She has a beautiful set of porcelains that are proven breeders. I was sorely tempted by them while I was there. Simply gorgeous!

OH NO! Mine have done this, and I have been lucky. Now I have 6ft tall fencing, which discourages them, but they can still get over it if they want to. Hence the bird netting over some of my runs. So sorry for your loss!
