Yikes...that does sound chaotic! You'll have chicks and ducklings coming out of your ears! They'll be in your dreams at night...LOL.

Spring - my little Silkie girl hasn't even laid an egg yet, so I don't expect any broodiness from her for quite a while. The BO's and EE's are laying, so maybe soon.... I just need to be patient...like that will ever happen...

And while I was at lunch the little reddish yellow one in the right front joined the bunch. I've turned on the second bator to use as a hatcher if needed, she's pipping so many right now she may need help.

Crumbs, hatch may be over, we had a hen fight in the nest, one baby was killed, one hatching egg was crushed and the eggs were tossed all over the place. The bearded BR Puff and Stuff who was laying eggs in there with Duchess decided to try and get in the nest again, well with babies in there Duchess didn't take that well and all *&^% broke out in the nest. I tried to save the egg and the baby but it was too late for them, it was the last chick hatched with the reddish yellow markings too, I"m positive it was Nugget's young.

SORRY THAT happened.

I s'pose I was fortunate in deciding to move my broody into her own fenced area.

She's a MEAN old Mother, but a good mother!

I suspect that would be tough for you because you have so many that are broody right now. It would require a LOT of fencing!

But, anyway, you've got some nice chicks! And, no tellin about the chicks being raised by the duck......They may be the first chickens who can swim well!

Best Regards from a fellow New Mexican,
Junkmanme
P.S. Sometimes, rarely, I travel to Silver City. Perhaps the opportunity will arise to go on and visit in your area.
P.P.S. I've NOW got a "game hen" settin' eggs. She made her OWN nest. Dunno how this is gonna come out.........

Remember the old cartoons (you "oldies" like me out there!) where the old hen would "arrange" herself over her nest for bedtime? This is what she looks like she would do. Fan her "dress" out over all those babies!!! Such an adorable picture!!!

Well I gathered up 18 eggs and put them in the hatcher, I'm afraid there isn't much of a chance but I'm going to try.
If you get down this way let me know Junkmanme, I didn't notice you were up Gallup way, I applied for a teaching job up there last year and almost had it!!

YEP!

And I can see Ole Foghorn Leghorn pacin' back an' forth, mumbling, looking for that little "chicken hawk", sayin' :

Now, Son, this ain't no good time for you to be messin' 'round hereabouts, Ya hear..Ya hear me , boy?"

Ha-Ha!
