Do you have too many ducks?

Hi @HeatherKellyB, nice to hear from you! I thought of you just this last week because I gave another duck the vaporizer treatment with the Oxine, which you so kindly mentioned to me. I don't know if was the right treatment, since I have no idea what is going on, but it's a tool in my toolbox and I thought I'd give it a try. Also, my Penny's foot finally healed - it was an amazing miracle - I stopped bandaging her foot when we went on vacation in July, and the scab just slowly disappeared and the foot pad swelling went pretty much back to normal, which I thought was impossible. Unfortunately the day the scab fully went away and I was rejoicing, she hurt her leg somehow and hasn't been able to walk for a week and a half. Ugh, so frustrating. I have three new babies who I am trying to get moved outside, but it's hard. Peep and Dixie, runners, and Dolly, a Duclair. How are you and your ducks? I'm not ever on this thread, but I guess this is the place to be!
They are cuties! What is your Duclair like so far?

Hi everyone. My name is Kale.

My problem with ducks isn't so much quantity more... Intensity. I started off with 6 ducks a day and now I'm down to 2 ducks a day. The truth is... Ducks are most of what I think about. As soon as the sun comes up I run outside and take care of ducks, and ducks are the last thing I take care of before the sun goes down. I can't even go on vacation because of my duck problem. They consume my life.

They are beautiful. Nothing wrong with ducks consuming your life.

@Quatie So far she seems like a miniature pekin - shorter I think than my pekins were at her age, very sturdy legs, yet has a big appetite like a pekin, is a good deal larger than my runners, who are the same age, although her legs are shorter than theirs, so they can jump in and out of the kiddie pool and she has to wait to be lifted. Her personality is sweet and curious.

@HeatherKellyB I'm so glad you've been bumble-free - what a huge blessing! My ducks have been doing well in that department also, and it's such a relief! I have had my share of soft shelled eggs though, and giving calcium for at least a month didn't seem to make much difference. I am only getting one egg every 2-3 days from my 3 pekins right now, and I wish they would just stop altogether. It's hard to tell who is laying what, but I think there might be some issues going on. I've read a little bit that indicates some hatchery birds start developing reproductive issues around 2-3 years.

@KaleIAm made some amazing personalized individual duck foot impression ornaments and if she'd share them, I'm sure yall will be impressed too. One more awesome fellow Duck Addict
Tada!

Yeah. I love my pekin, but the leg issues are such a pain. I have thought about maybe getting a white layer in the future, but Duclair is a possibility if they don't have the health issues. Thanks
