*Opening up the barn for the AM, 2 brown ducks and my pied Muscovy rush out to start their day. From deep within the barn, I hear it*

chirpCHIRP!

Led to the proper location by the chirps and squeals of my outraged white Muscovy, I found her on a nest sitting on two eggs, one from her, and one from her sister. From zero to broody in less than 24 hours.

We had to have a discussion. I live at a higher elevation in Vermont, where the first snowfall and frigid temperatures often occur in the later half of October (aka SOON).

I talked to her about 35 day incubation periods and where that would put her hatch date. I talked to her about proper temperatures for ducklings and compared those with temperatures they will have in their unheated barn in November.

I didn’t talk to her about the clear lack of fertilization as she’s never “been with” a drake. I tried that in the past without success.

True to stubborn Muscovy form, she wouldn’t listen to a thing I said.

In the end, I had to steal her eggs from her and destroy her nest while she watched…again… before “encouraging” her to join the others for their AM foraging walk.

The only treats my big ducks will eat are living. Earthworms are a huge hit but freshly caught minnows seem to be considered the best of the best top shelf treats. I haven't tried offering minnows to my Littles yet. Has anyone fed their bantam ducks live minnows? My tiniest Call was the craziest over earthworms, but that little girl walks around eating any and every thing. I have many sizes of minnows in the pond and at night I can easily fish them out with a net. I'm sure they will need the smaller minnows if I end up offering them. So my question is, does anyone feed their bantam ducks minnows? Is there any reason that I shouldn't? Thank you for your time

Well, I know that there are “French White Muscovies” who are white with a little spot on their head. Mine is certainly nothing fancy. That picture of her was from this summer. These are from right now. She excavated and recreated her nest overnight. I had to repeat yesterday’s eviction. Now, she is grumpily following her sisters around threatening to bite them .

These are from right now. She excavated and recreated her nest overnight. I had to repeat yesterday’s eviction. Now, she is grumpily following her sisters around threatening to bite them .

Those eyes She looks pretty mad, especially in the last picture, reminds me of the look from an angry rebellious teenager I love their look and those blue eyes. She's beautiful and looks pretty fancy to me

@Quatie does your gorgeous Muscovy have blue eyes? Her color is absolutely stunning! What color is she? The same Muscovy in your profile is pictured above, right?

I was just admiring her again and I know whats so fancy now! It looks like she's wearing eye shadow/liner with the cat eye look! I've been trying to master the perfect cat eye with eye liner for so long! What did they used to say...... Her makeup game is on flek

Thanks you @HeatherKellyB ! That is the same Muscovy in my profile. She doesn't have blue eyes, but brown eyes. I believe her feather color is lavander and has a rippled pattern.

When I originally got my Muscovy, I picked 2 girls based on how social they seemed. They were so bonded and sad missing their friends that a couple days later we went back and got 3 more. I got her in that second batch. I had thought she was really pretty the first time I visited the breeder, but didn't choose her. So glad I went back to get her and the other 2.
