Hey everyone, after work today I stopped at my local feed store, while there I spotted some ducklings. In the end I just couldn’t help but buy a few of the little guys… They could possibly be a mix of Mallards and/or Rouens. Of the three, one has two black lines on its face and two have one line and a broken up line below that. Maybe one of you guys would know what those lines mean? I’ll show a pic. The one with the full bottom line is in front.

They look like perfect sweet little Rouens to me! I’m surprised the feed store is selling ducklings so late in the season!

I know, I thought the same thing, I bought them at the Atwoods store here in Ardmore, Ok. We also have a Tractor Supply and an Orschelns, but they only carry them in the springtime. So, you think they are Rouens and not Mallards? What are the main signs to tell the difference?

I was going off of the 2 stripes vs. 1, although I was just reading about mallards who had a second stripe that faded after a week or so… Is there anyone at the feed store that might know or might know what hatchery they use?

I’m pretty sure they came from Metzer in California or Ideal. As for the employees knowing what breeds they had, they all just said that they didn’t know for sure, they were just all together in one stock tank. I believe they had some Runners, Perkins, Khakis and the Mallard/Rouens.
