I thought maybe those hatcheries all out sourced their ducks and geese to Metzer, because when I ordered runner ducks from MacMurray they sent my birds from Metzer. I thought that maybe there was a law that large hatcheries like that could only keep one kind of bird? When they arrived I thought that was weird that they came from a different hatchery without them telling me.

There are a lot that do get their ducks from metzer. Not all of them. I know someone was annoyed this spring because metzer was having issues hatching a few breeds. They ordered through someone else and their order got pushed back a couple months. They wished they had just ordered through metzer.

Wow, they definitely are big! The little guys really look like all the Rouen ducklings I’ve looked at, time will tell I guess. If mine are Rouens, I wonder if they are the standard type or the production type? I’ve seen a much smaller production type in the past thats not near as large as the standard.

Yeah. I can't understand how they walk. But I am fairly certain yours will be production style. I think all the big hatcheries are. I recently learned about the standard and have not seen it before when looking at ducks hatcheries before.

Was it @KaleIAm or @Daphne_loves_mealworms that was getting some odd eggs from their ducks? I believe they were a darker green than usual but of course I may be wrong. I just wanted to share my odd find. I'm almost positive it was laid by my Pekin and hopefully all of her recent egg shell issues are related to her molting. She's been laying soft shelled, no shell, and this. It doesn't really look like a body check or slab sided, although those are the closest examples I've found. It looks like a shell gland issue, in my inexperienced opinion. She's laid several eggs with that rough wide oval area on the side of the egg but this one is very noticeably odd. Have you noticed any duck eggs like this before?

The egg looks so much more wierd in person. My daughter called it an alien egg

This is completely off topic from my other messages about my ducklings, but this had me laughing earlier, I was imagining if I let my flock grow this large!

When I watch that video all I can think of is, "oh, the vet bills! How could I ever pay for the vet bills?!"

Yeah! My Nettle, probably a dark khaki campbell, gave me 3 green eggs this spring and summer. One was a bit mottled like that! I took her to the vet and she had bloodwork and body radiographs, they even sent them to a radiologist familiar with birds, and said she was healthy. Nettle also makes lopsided eggs, but she always has.

This is two other eggs with the rough "patch" on the shell. You can also see how her eggs tend to have a slight curve towards the pointy end. She lays nonstop and was medicated a lot throughout 2020 while dealing with chronic bumblefoot and possible septic arthritis.

An Easter Egger duck The color difference in those few eggs was wild! That's wonderful that she is healthy. Maybe she was just showing off her abilities. Nettle says, "Look, I can dye eggs too!"

My ducks have given me eggs with those patches before, I don't know what they are, though.

Their reproductive drive is impressive. I'm so glad my ducks are slowing down egg production with age. I just want them to have henopause so I can stop worrying about their reproductive health. At least they mine are taking a winter break since molting.
