Do you have too many ducks?

Yeah. I have not hatched out any of my eggs. I need to have a plan for extra drakes. The one time I had duck, likely Pekin, I was not a fan of it. Granted it could have been the way it was cooked. My Muscovy are really making me feel guilty about not letting them raise ducklings.
I’m sure you know Muscovy are the red meat of fowl and are supposed to be pretty tasty. I’ve never tried it, but was going to if my sons Muscovy hatched anything. That didn’t work out which was a bummer. Honestly though, the only duck out there I’d try is Jasper because he’s a jerk right now lol.
I only had ducklings hatch because I didn’t realize the duck was sitting on eggs at first. Otherwise there wasn’t a plan for that I assure you! I gqve my son the bigger white layers I had because they ended up with too many drakes and those girls were like climbing a mountain to mate for Jasper lol.

These are my 4 ducklings. Moved to the brooder this morning. Hoping to get another one or two but not liking my chances. I'm leaving them until Tuesday when I'll turn my incubator off and give it a good clean. Then I'll be putting 4 peacock eggs in so hopefully I'll get a couple of those too.
How cute! What breed or breeds are they? Is the one on the front left a Swede and the one on the front right a Cayuga?

I had a Muscovy drake and he was ok to his females, but he was really mean to my non-muscovy. My pekin was especially picked on. The day I butchered him, she was happiest I had ever seen her in a long time, and no one else missed him. My muscovy females sometimes even go through moods where they pick on the others, but it is always short lived.

If you do butcher any, I would be interested to know what you think.
I will definitely let you know then. Last time I tried duck, I was like 10 or 11 and I liked it, but I was a kid that really liked anything I ate. I remember my Dad didn’t care for it too much, he said it was too greasy and he was never a fan of dark meat.

They're adorable! Do you have other ducks or are these the beginning of a wonderful flock? Congratulations ❤️

So sorry I’ve been away! Been super busy. I didn’t even realize how many posts I missed in this thread, as I hadn’t been getting notifications. I will work on getting caught up. Took some birds to a show yesterday and the ducks did ok. The calls are just pet quality. The real winner was my lavender guinea! :gig

This is my new hen princess. She is a very tiny penciled call hen. She has befriended my broody babies. She’s literally the same size as my two week old calls lol! :gig

You know you’re a crazy duck lady, when you have a duck sleeping in your utility sink… but it was cold…

ps sorry for the overload of pics, I may or may not be totally obsessed with her! :lau

They are Runner drake over Cayuga. I was waiting for all whites like our last 2 hatches but I was pleasantly surprised.

I've got 8 big ducks, 4 ducks and 4 drakes. The youngest 4 aren't at breeding age just yet and there's 2 drakes and 2 ducks in that lot. Sadly 3 of the drakes are going in the freezer as soon as we can. But one of the big girls is sitting on close to 20 of hers and the other girls eggs. The other girl went broody but acted like a school girl and as soon as the drakes called out for her she got off the nest so I put her eggs under the other one and so far she's going great.
