ugh, I love turtles!! Herps in general! What a beautiful little guy, thank you for helping him through this early hatching. In his defense, he may have been a very very late hatch from last year who Brumated (yes, it happens!) and just came out. He doesn’t have a yolk sack , from that pic, so he isn’t fresh hatched.

I do remember a turtle that was attempting to either dig a hole to lay eggs or possibly covering the eggs, last year at the big ducks area. I believe it was in the fall. It was dark so I'm not sure if it was this kind of turtle or one of the many Cumberland Sliders in the pond. We've had a very mild winter with maybe a weeks worth of below freezing temps. That's really interesting

Isn’t it? I found totally out of season toadlets last year. As in, they came out in a heat wave and I had to hold them hostage when it decided to snow two days later…lol. Herps are a bit goofy, but we love them. my Bp Is refusing food because breeding season glad the ducklings aren’t so picky lol

I also learned the other kind of turtles we have! I kept trying to figure out why a box turtle would spend so much time in the pond. Their shell was hinged and shaped like a box turtle but that's where the similarities ended. Tiny Tiika helped solve the mystery! We have Eastern Mud Turtles. The Cumberland Sliders get fairly large and from what I've read, they're invasive. They will actually swim right up and snatch food from ducks and geese. These Eastern Mud Turtles don't act like that. They're much more shy but they do watch me while I'm fishing for minnows for the ducks. Then again, maybe they're coming up with a plan to destroy the minnow/food and tiny turtle offspring thief

This isn't new to all, but I thought some might find it oddly interesting. A few days ago before lock up, my Cayuga drake, Stormy, was trying to eat what I thought was an acorn.

He moved it all around in his bill trying to situate it just right for swallowing and finally gave up and spit it out. I thought it looked like an odd acorn so I picked it up and discovered it wasn't an acorn after all! Check out this teeny tiny turtle hatchling! It's about the size of a dime. This poor little one was probably traumatized! Since then, thanks to one of my favorite people, I've learned that it's incredibly early for this hatchling, I've been keeping it in a safe spot, away from curious bills. It was already swimming around within minutes of being spat out so I don't think it has any injuries. It was just so odd

My deal collecting out of date produce is still going great. I have six tubs now and three stay at my place and three stay at the grocery store till they fill them up. Today I got a tub of fruits and two of veggies, my ducks just go crazy for the fruits, especially watermelons.

I’ve never owned a turtle, but I had a chameleon for about six years. I was sad when I lost her a few years ago, but that was a pretty neat pet. I’ll always remember when I looked in the cage one day and I found like twenty little blue spotted eggs.
