Duck Article Brainstorm Session!

Would you say its better?

Is it used to treat an obvious illness or is it used as a catch-all before illness happens?

Some people think it's the devil, lol, but feed medicated with amprolium and/or bacitracin is perfectly safe.

I wonder if what medication is commonly used in the feed varies in different countries... Perhaps we could say medicated feed in the US is safe, but in XYZ Country may not be?? I don't really know!

Most feeds have amprolium, which is a medicine used to prevent or treat coccidiosis. Since coccidiosis is not common in ducks, it's not needed. Bacitracin is an antibiotic that is used to prevent and treat necrotic enteritis. I don't think that's common in ducklings either, so not needed.

This is when people need to be smart and read labels. Me, I wanna know what medication is in the feed I buy.

Why is it that coccidiosis is less common in ducks than chickens?

I have no idea. :idunno

I feel like I have treated my chickens for a million things and my ducks for nothing. I get that because they are in the water and all oiled up they are less prone to things like mites and lice, but the ducks seem to somehow be less prone to everything despite living in the same yard and eating the same food and drinking the same water :idunno

You've been unlucky that way and I wonder if you might have one of the nastier duck diseases in your flock. :idunno
