Duck as Protector

Hello I read somewhere that if you get a duckling the same age as the chicks that it will grow up to help protect the flock. Is this true? And has anyone else done this with success?

I think you mean a goose or a peacock... unfortunately, ducks fall prey just as easily to predators as chickens do.
