Duck ate a rat?!?!

Maybe some light on ChaCha's size... I assume you don't know ChaCha's lineage since you rescued her. ChaCha looks like the same kind of duck as Tevye to me. Tevye was bought from Metzer where they sold him as a "White Crested" (I am guessing that this is because he wouldn't be a purebred Pekin.) Metzer claims they don't have the problems typical to crested ducks. I don't know how much this is true or to what extent the problem has been relieved, but I would assume if it is true, they bred together whatever source ducks they could to get as good and consistent outcome as possible. To me Tevye looks like a crested version of a German Pekin which is similar to an American Pekin but stands more upright like a runner. According to Metzer their Pekins weigh 7-13.5 lbs (Snow was 11 lbs so spot on) And their Jumbo Pekins weigh 9 - 13.5 lbs. Their White Crested only weighs 6 - 7.25 lbs. (I am not sure what Tevye's current weight is - I am getting a baby scale in the next few days - but I would be very surprised if he was much more than 6 lbs and he's a drake - He is long and VERY fluffy, but not real heavy).
That's really cool to know! I figured she was crossed with SOMETHING because anything crested can't be a full blood pekin, but she's so huge I forget it sometimes! She actually fits my goosey's first few adult diapers! I'm sure Tevye and ChaCha are related somewhere down the line! She's got that long parralel to the ground body. So cute! I love his giant pouf. That's another thing that makes me think she's a mutt of some sort - her pouf is rather tiny compared to many of the cresteds I've seen.

HAAAA Gentila, I love your new avatar photo! Silly Entie. :p

I honestly didn't know Cha2 was so small. Even so, when you have call ducks "small" takes on a whoooole new meaning. I wan into a Pekin coming out of the vet's a while back and he was huge to me! Before then mallards and Pekes were just...duck-sized. Now they're gargantuan by comparison!
I'm always surprised how much lighter she is than ther pekins, but she's just a tall and long. Never filled out like my other other pekins have in the past.

Wow.. Thats certainly Impressive.

Im pretty sure my at the time two call ducks killed at rat, although they didn't eat it.

One morning I went in to feed them and there was a dead rat in the hutch, I didn't even know ducks could kill a rat let alone eat it !

Seriously? Mine would probably run terrified of a rat, LOL! Poor Bean was scared of peas yesterday. Scared. Of peas. SIGH

Maybe it is something else... Do you feed your ducks out of a flaming bowl with rotating knives and maces above it...:idunno

Don't be ridiculous. It's a flaming bowl with rotating knives and whips, not maces.

Just following up... I got my baby scale - works great for ducks! Tevye weighs in at 5 lbs, 1 oz. He looks like my biggest duck/drake because he is sooooo fluffy! He looked almost as big as Snow who topped 11 lbs.

Even more surprising was that Kaine weighs in at a mere 4 lbs, 6oz. I guess right now it makes sense that the ducks are overall heavier than the drakes: they have all that egg manufacturing equipment + an egg in progress. But this shows how little clue I have as to my ducks' weight. Even my bulkiest runner (she is a little brick) outweighs Kaine - Mystique weighs 4 lbs, 14 oz. My Swedish are my heavyweights tied at 6 lbs, 6 oz and my lightweight is Entie at a mere 3 lbs, 13 oz. She eats a million calories / day but is a spazz and runs all over the place all the time so she is lean and sleek.

My muscovies will hunt rats mice and frogs and lizards. Pretty much anything smaller than a baseball is in trouble and if it's big they are like Tyrannosaurus Rex and more than one will just grab on and they will share. It's quite gross but I haven't had to put out mouse and rat traps since I got them. They also have decreased my fly and mosquito problems by quite a bit as well. I don't know where they put it all. Girl scovies are generally smaller than the boys by about half. All my girls are pretty petite too.
