Duck attacked by a fox

6 days ago my duck was attacked by a fox. I read a lot of post on this website to help me figure out what to do. The leg muscle had been lacerated and I could see the intact organ cavity under it but there was no blood and the duck was able to walk but not to lay down to rest. I washed the wound and disinfected it twice a day for the first 3 days. I've placed her in my bathroom and gave her a bath 4 times a day. (Because first day her beak was hot so I supposed she had fever and put her in a cold bath.) Today, she rested on her belly for the first time. She eat a little bit since the last 2 days. She's not holding her head up since day 1. She's with her best girlfriend since day 2.

Should I be worried? Can I do something else? How to know if there is an infection? How long will it takes to heal? Any suggestion/ advice if welcome.

That looks to be a pretty deep wound, is a vet an option? If yes, that might be the best route to take. If not, try to keep the wound moist with an antibacterial ointment or cream, like silver silvadene, or preparation H. Keep her in a warm environment and offer her sugar water, or an electrolyte often. I would try weighing her every morning to get a good idea of how much/if she's losing weight. If she doesn't start drinking soon, it's likely she'll need to be tube-fed. With such injuries, it's likely the bacteria have gone into her bloodstream, so getting her on some sort of antibiotic would be advised.

Over time, just drinking a little bit can be detrimental to her state. Just even being slightly dehydrated is bad. That's why it would be a good idea to pay attention to her weight, and check her mucous membranes to see if they see tacky at all.

Thanks for the links but I'm in Canada and it's basically impossible to get antibiotics without a vet.

I see. Given the wound, I would feel the infection is systemic at this point. Continuing to keep the wound moist with an antibacterial ointment, and offering her sugar water, or an electrolyte would be good, but ultimately, seeing a vet will likely prove the best outcome.
