LOL. Try that when you really need to trap one. Maybe there was still a food smell in there or maybe it was curious. IDK

Maybe New England raccoons are really smart. Wicked smaaht!!
Everyone I know around here has to work for it. Tuna and cat food are our best baits. I lucked out that mine was already addicted to vole poison blocks.

All traps work better if you bait it a couple times before setting the tripping device on the door.Once they get used to going in and out of it safely they'll take the bait and be trapped.We used to set traps for feral cats so we could get them fixed.Most animals will never go back in a trap after being trapped

Unfortunately some people will relocate anything from a snake to a bob cat right at your door not realizing some of us would rather shoot it than trap it anyway.
