Duck attacked by raccoon

Oh, the raccoon is no worry. My brother shot it while it had Alexis in it's mouth. Thankfully he was a good enough shot to kill it without touching Alexis. I thought I put that in my post.....Guess not. Ookay, but yeah, he's dead. I really, really hate it when he has to shoot them, because they shouldn't die just because they want food, but when you don't have an animal shelter near by, and it's either your ducks your are dinner and it keeps coming back for more or the predator dies, it just has to happen.

If you can find one at a garage sale or something -- a fishing net works great for catching birds. That is how I catch my ducks. It helps if you have a corner you can get them into, and then it doesn't usually take too long to nab them with the net -- the kid with a handle, and a net in a hoop at the end of the handle is what I mean. Ducks are especially easy -- chickens not so much. It is great for the ones that just don't let you get close, although mine all get suspicious as soon as they see the net behind my back . . .

That's a super good idea! I think I have one laying around here too. My dad used to take my brother fishing when he was really little, so we have some supplies around here somewhere. Thanks for the suggestion!

Wow thanks for this advice I am going to give it a try. One of our mallard ducks is almost impossible for me to catch. I have to wait until my grand daughter is home to let the mallards out because they still need supervision. She doesn't herd well either I'm hoping things will get better with her, she's just seven weeks old now. Sorry for the hijack!
