I bought me two ducks last week and they asked me when I got them if I wanted them to cut the bands off their legs. I said that was ok we could do it at home. I didn't realize they were a metal barb looking wire on their leg. Faith my yellow duck her feet are swollen and I don't know how to get the bands off. Does anyone know how to get them off?

Could you post pictures? It might help if we can see them.

Hopefully this works. I should have let them cut it off but last time I got ducks they didn't have them and I just thought they were like rubber bands. Sorry to repeat.

Ya Gracie's luckily doesn't look like that Yet. My husbands going to try and get them off tonight just needed to know a way to get them off. I should have just had them take them off. It was stupid of me not to I didn't think this would happen though. If hubby can't get them off I'll have to take back to where I got them tomorrow and hopefully they can get them off. I thought they took all that off before they sold them my last three ducks didn't have bands. I also lost all three too. :-(

That does look very difficult to get at without harming the leg. Are you able to contact the vendor again and ask how they do it? Otherwise I would tend to try in the coolest part of the day, or dip the leg in chilled water to minimise the swelling of the leg, then try very carefully with side-cutters.

If I put her legs in cool water it should take the swelling down? How long should I let her be in the cool water for that to happen? Thanks I can't contact the place til tomorrow.

I had a chicken brought to me once with a zip tie that someone couldn't remove. Hubby used toe nail clippers to get it off and it was super tight. He just clipped until he made it through.
