so my second year of ducks in the winter. But now it’s 4, 1 male, 3 females. They have an open pen for all morning, I lock them up in this enclosure for the night which has 2 houses and a pool. I have food in the pen also. Now, do ducks eat that much? I fill up the bowl in the morning when I let them loose, about a scoop or two. By nighttime there is “usually” still food in the bowl, but in the morning it’s all gone. Usually mush from the water bowl. Are they eating it all up or do you think little mice are visiting? Should I take the food away when I lock them up (gets dark about 5 pm right now). And in other news, I usually get 1 egg a day, but every 4-5 days or so, I get a clutch of 6-9! And that is from one night because I check every morning.

Mine are locked up at night without food an water and I have been doing this for years. It has to be frigid and snowing before heated bucket and feed comes inside they can trash the whole coop in no time and frozen bedding can’t be much fun to sleep on.

The food is outside with water to drink and bathe. It’s inside a dog kennel and there are 2 houses attached to this run. No electric to get to these waters.

I think everyone has great "personal" experiences. I personally give my 3 ducks a night snack when the girls are up roosting and not harassing them. I agree whole hearted that water is a disaster in the coop with ducks (but I have water in coop). Do what is best for you and your duckies.
