Hi, I have a male mallard that’s hanging around my ducks that has what looks like a rotting beak with a weird growth on it. I’d like to help him if possible. If anyone has an idea I’d appreciate it. See pictures attached. Thanks in advance.

I saw a healed version of this recently on a wild Mallard female. I'm not quite sure if this is what caused this, but I do know that fishing line is very bad for the ducks and often causes troubles like this.

I don't think that it is rotten, but it does need to be taken care of. Make a Saline rinse (boil 2 teaspoons to one quart of water and let completely cool before use) and gently poor it on his beak holding his beak (if possible) so that the Saline doesn't go into his nostrils. Use a paper towel to dab on it to help clean. (Again if possible and if you feel safe doing this) apply a small amount of Neosporin or something like that to help with the healing.
