My ducks are almost 17 weeks old now. My only boy,Darwin (Rouen), just finished getting his green head and drake feather a couple weeks ago! I'm such a proud mama.
None of my 4 girls have started laying yet. But I've noticed some new behavior. A few times in their pool I've seen Darwin "bite" Quacker's (black runner) neck and try to jump on her back. So obviously he's trying to mate with her. (Which is fine. I'll be eating all their eggs).
Here's what my question is about... A couple times I've seen Stella (fawn/white runner) in the pool stretched out as far as she can with her butt poking up some. I figured that was her way of telling Darwin to come mate with her. Is that right? I know they like to mate on water.
Today, I saw Puddle (Pekin) outside of the pool laying close to the ground and stretching out like that. Is she trying to get Darwin's attention? Or could she be trying to lay an egg?
