Hello everyone! For close to a couple of months now, my Herman duck (a Hen) has had a poochy belly. I thought it was just an egg thing, but she hasn't been laying for weeks now and she still has her pooch (she seems to be shut down on egg laying for the winter, it's been really cold here). It doesn't seem to be causing her any issues, but I've been thinking about asking about it just because of how prominent it is. Can anyone shed some insight on what this might be and if it's a problem or not?

edit: I've been keeping an eye on it and feeling it every week or so and it's quite soft, not hard at all.

Hey there! Did anything ever come of this? I just noticed the same thing with one of my girls and can't really find much info! Thanks!

I haven't learned definitely either, but it seems to be a normal part of her duck anatomy that becomes more apparent in the fall and winter after egg laying season. I think it's normal, although in Herman's case here she has had a few health issues, they don't seem to be associated with this poochy tummy.

Thanks for the response!! Well thats good to hear! I'm glad she's doing alright! This is my "problem child" and I have already maxed my CareCredit card on her so it's a relief to hear that her new belly flab is mostly likely just a normal thing! She's a new mama to two beautiful babies so maybe motherhood is taking its toll! 😅
