Duck Born in the middle of winter?!

Hi all,
My duck Poppy was born in the middle of winter. There were no ducks anywhere near her and I was wondering what would trigger her weird birth time and place (in the middle of a paddock)

While unusual it is not impossible for ducks to go broody in the winter - and that was what had to have happened for her to hatch.

I had some ducklings hatch in winter and lost most of them. It is a normal thing they do especially muscovies.
