Duck Breed Focus - Magpie

Magpie Ducks..

I got good news but not sure it helps. I am from Canada and enjoy these ducks as they are very adaptable to most any situation. I often wonder if they would migrate. They learn to fly if left with ducks that do fly. Very fast as well.
They are easy to find in Canada. I wonder if they got here from the USA and liked it so well they stayed.

This is a popular breed as they are hardy. Easy to keep.

True Magpie ducks are unable to fly just like all most breeds of Anas platyrhynchos domestica. If hybridized with Muscovies (another species of duck) might result in a bird that is sterile, but could potentially fly. But migrate? Unlikely.

You might be confusing them with call ducks, of which there is a Magpie color pattern. They can indeed fly if not kept clipped or pinioned as a duckling.

I ordered some magpies and they will arrive soon. I plan on breeding them. Love 'em!
