Hi, we are wanting to get 3 female ducks and have a few questions. We want them for eggs and also as pets (they will stay outside though). With our purposes I've been looking at Pekins, Rouens, and Buffs (they are pretty!). We will probably get at least one pekin and two of either the Rouens or the Buffs. Any opinions on this? We live in the midwest and it gets pretty cold in the winter, would Buffs not be good for that? Is there a problem with only having one of one breed and two of the other? Also, do you need a drake? We don't want to hatch any more, so I didn't want to deal with a male. Any chance the buffs wouldn't go broody if we didn't have a male?

These are a lot of questions. Thanks for any help!

If I were you, I would get 3 female Pekin ducks. That's what I have and they're amazing. When they reach 6 months of age, you can expect an egg a day. I don't know about other breeds but that's just what I know. Good luck with whatever your decision!
