Duck changing colors?

Can any one tell me why this duck is turning grey/blue? We bought it in the spring at tractor supply. Its suppose to be cayuga. Pretty sure by voice it's a he. I dont know anything about ducks.

You've probably got a male Rouen or mallard duck. When they first feather out in their juvenile plumage, they will look more like the female . .they go through a juvenile molt and lose those feathers and get their adult plumage.
Yours looks like it's in the middle of his molt.
This will happen every year typically.. After breeding season they turn back into what's called eclipse plumage. . the more drab camouflage colors and look more like the female again.
 
I'm no duck pro... I have cayuga's... mine are 5 weeks old... They are starting to turn green. .. I got mine by a hatchery that is breeding purebreds...
At least they claim they are...
 
That is a handsome duck,but looks like a mallard and something else had a moment together. Was it all black we you brought it home?
Nope, this pic is shortly after we got him.
