OK - I know they have crossed a tiger and a lion, buffalo and cattle, but can a duck and a chicken cross?
My drake recently died and my rooster has taken over. And unfortunatly (?) I witnessed the act and he is sucsessfully mating with my girl ducks.
I don't want to start incubating this late in the season but if this is viable what would I get ? Dickens or Chucks?

I'd be interested in seeing what comes out of those eggs LoL
I think it would depend on the gender of the chick.
Isn't it usually boys look like Dad and girls look like Mom?
Except maybe this time, the girls will have chix bodies with duck bills and the boys will have duck bodies with chix beaks...

I gotta stop!

Toss a Turkey tom in there somewhere and you can get Turduckens!

(Sorry, I just couldn't help myself)

the treadhunter link's pic looks fake to me..

the other link looks more reliable.. but I didn't see anything there where it says duck/chicken hybrids are possible.. did I miss something?

... the body color doesn't look that different than appleyards or harlequins.. so that part's not convincing. I wondered if it could really be just missing the webs on it's feet?

Had one of these for dinner the other day!

Be interesting to see, might wind up with a web-footed chicken that quacks.

Can't happen.

They are all from the same Class: Aves (birds), similar to us humans being from the Class: Mammalia (mammals).

However; chickens, turkeys and pheasants are all members of the Order: Galliformes and Family: Phasianidae. so they can potentially cross.

Ducks however are of a different Order: Anseriformes which makes them too far apart on the evolutionary chain to produce offspring.

It would be like a human, which belongs to the Order: Primate, mating a tiger, which belongs to the Order: Carnivora. Too far apart in evolution to make offspring.

Sorry, the geek in me just escaped. Trying to stuff it back into it's cage where it belongs!
