Hey y’all! First post. I am curious how many ducks max I could fit in a 4’x4’x8’coop outside, well ventilated, for SLEEPING ONLY. Only at night. Free range during the day, access to food and water, and put up at night. I have 4 Pekins currently, and have Cayugas coming end of July. Thanks y’all!

At night only, with lots of ventilation and daily cleaning I would say 6-8.
I do clean before they go in every single night. A tarp on bottom, wood pellets on half and around their water and pine shavings on the other side, although they seem to like the wood pellets better, and they last longer so I may go to that completely through out. They ask to come in about 7/730 every evening and are out by 8 every morning.

I don't put any food or water in their sleeping pen unless it's really hot out and then I'll put a bucket of water for them. Not putting food and water saves a lot of cleaning time plus if they've got it all day long they don't need it while they are supposed to be sleeping.

Since I live in the south, water is a must, and since I have neighbors fairly close I had decided to keep food in in case they wanted to eat earlier than I let them out. My girl is LOUD when she’s hangry 😂😂😂 And the water is what made the biggest mess, and with the wood pellets, has been a life and money saver, so much easier to clean up, and doesn’t stay wet or nasty when the water gets out so I don’t mind.

I live in the south too. Maybe you're a lot more south? I rarely need to put water in their night pens unless it's like 100° out and that isn't all that often. I'm just west of Atlanta.

I’m in South Carolina. We are finishing the coop this week for them, only have 4 right now, and they have been in the garage with a temporary set up. I have a camera in there that tells me the temp and it’s been right at 80. I keep a fan in there as well and windows cracked, but I have this one I’m not positive isn’t a jumbo Pekin. She’s my girl and quite a bit bigger than the other 3 boys and pants. From the time she was a little one, especially if it got warm. And they usually will circle and sit around the water pan and drink. So I throw frozen peas in to cool it down when they come in. How hot is too hot for a duck though???? Bc man SC isn’t going to get any cooler anytime soon!!!
