Duck Coup Fencing

OB, sounds like you have a Ft. Knox over there for your web-footed critters!! Awesome - an inspiration!

tweety, that sounds like a most excellent plan! BEST of luck - you have the right idea; do it right the first time!

NCFF, I haven't done the "skirting" yet, but it seems like this option would be easier than burying, which can be very time consuming and quite a bit of labor. Do you cut the grass horizontally, like sod, and then flip it back, and add the skirting, then flip the "sod" piece back over? If so, hve you found that it works well, and does the grass grow again once you put it back over the skirt?

My most current way to do the wire for skirting is to buy the 4' wire cloth. I unroll the whole thing putting a large brick or something at either end. I then fold it in half short ways to make a 2' x 2' angle. I run it along the outside. My attachment method to the vertical is with these handy dandy wires with loops at either end. They are sold at Home depot in the concrete/rebar section. They are about 6" long. I put a little bend in it stick it in from the outside and back to me. Now just twist. i also have a cool tool that has a wood handle w/ a swivel hook on the end. I just stick the two loops through it and twirl the handle. Now for the horizontal leg, for this part my dad came up with a good idea. We used small metal conduit, cut it into squeezed both end closed on one end make a 3" bend. Now get your sledge hammer and secure the wire to the ground. FYI~ yes they are hard to take out. I was cursing under my breath as I removed them when moving last month. But, nothing is getting in to my birds. Now, one problem I had is when one of my girl came trotting out the coop she snaged her nail and pulled it right off. Here there are a couple for things i have found that work, if you are worried about that. concrete pavers , or I also have used a roll if thick plastic(like a door mat). Or how about putting a raised planter bed over the wire and growing something nice for them to eat/ have shade.

Hmmm....I'm having trouble visualizing these things, but I'm going to print this up and have my husband read it. He's better able to follow written instructions than I am.

Do you happen to have any picture of this process? If so, that would make a most awesome thread! Many thanks for you posts - it's very much appreciated!

I am horrible about visualizing, I normally have to have words and pictures! Ekk!
